School-Leaving Keepsakes — from a school uniform
They grow up so fast. I turn an outgrown school uniform into a keepsake bear — a gentle way to hold onto the little years as they begin a new chapter.
- Items needed
- Often a jumper and a shirt or dress is plenty — tell me what you have and I’ll advise.
- Fabrics
- School jumpers, blazers, polo shirts, summer dresses and ties all work well.
The school years go by in a blink. One moment they’re starting reception in a jumper three sizes too big; the next, they’re leaving for good and that little uniform is destined for a bin bag. A school-leaving keepsake holds onto those years — turning an outgrown uniform into a bear to treasure.
It makes a thoughtful gift for a child stepping into a new chapter, or a keepsake for a proud parent who isn’t quite ready to let the little years go.
What can you make from a school uniform?
Most people choose a keepsake bear, made from a jumper, polo shirt, blazer or summer dress. Best of all, school badges, logos and ties can often be kept as part of it, so the school they’re leaving stays stitched into the keepsake.
Which pieces work best?
Jumpers, blazers, polo shirts, gingham summer dresses and ties all work beautifully. An embroidered logo or a house badge can make a lovely detail. If you’re unsure what to send, take a photo and I’ll let you know what works.
Is it only for primary leavers?
Not at all — a keepsake can mark the end of any school chapter, from the last day of reception to leaving secondary school for the wider world. Whenever a milestone feels worth keeping, I’m happy to help.
Sending or dropping off your items
